How to Set up a third party router with vodafone

IF YOU ARE USING A THIRD-PARTY ROUTER THAT WORKS 100% WITHOUT BUGS.PLEASE PM ME THE MAKE AND MODEL SO I CAN UPDATE THE LIST

The first thing you need to do is ask Vodafone for your username and password. live chat with Vodafone is best because you can copy and paste the name and password into the router. ( some users did write it down wrong. password is lower and upper case. username watch out for zero and o )

FTTC SETTING         ( FTTP is below FTTC)

The setting is the same for all the routers it's down to the isp (the setting page will be laid out differently but the setting are still the same, eg

Vodafone setting are

Vlan ID - 101

enable 802.1q (not on every router)

Username  - ******@broadband.vodafone.co.uk

Username - ******@businessbroadband.vodafone.co.uk  ( for business customers )

Password - ********

PPPoE

MTU Size : 1492

rest of the setting auto detect when the router and the dslam are negotiating with each other

TP-Link Archer VR400 V3 AC1200 Wireless MU-MIMO Dual Band (1st Advanced tab, change the Operation Mode to Wireless Router Mode (the ONT is acting as a modem, hence it will not work if you are in DLS Modem Router Mode). 2nd  Do not enable VLAN ID or it will not work! Vodafone will tell you to set it to 101, if you do this it will not work! Keep the default MTU size (1480), do not change it to 1492, as suggested in several posts in this thread, or it will not work!.

(from user) I managed to connect Asus DSL-AX82U modem/router and use it without Vodafone Wi-Fi hub finally. When use Asus router tutorial choose network provider as BT - Infinity. VLAN ID come up automatically as 101 then just copy your Vodafone username and password

I'm just lookin at the BT whole home WiFi disks and they do a mini version of the disks. Are these new ?

Yes I think so? I think there are 3 versions now low, mid and expensive! Don't know what the difference is? I always say get the best you can afford it will last longer! But I do fully recommend them work very well! I have been experiencing constant drops in my connection since I had it installed since I've had these it's been rock solid

Just answering one specific thing here.  In regards to using the required VLAN settings with a standard router, the workaround is to use the IPTV function of the router to get the tags inserted.  If the devices you buy do not have IPTV settings then they'll not work without an intermediary device that does - ie you use the supplied router, but turn it's WiFi off, and just use the Mesh devices for the WiFi and not for the whole network management!

It's possible that you'll start seeing the VLAN settings in the main connection settings of some standard routers quite soon!  *Last time I tried explaining why we have IPTV settings at all I almost lost the will to live!

If only I'd known that I saw IPTV setting in the router I brought and thought it can't be that 😂 but it ended well the BT whole home I had in the loft is working a treat! I can't believe how trash the Vodafone router actually is! Mind you though it is handing a lot of data via BT mesh and a quite a few LAN cables at once just seem to be the WiFi that is trash

When someone has some time could they provide me with my user name as password so I can set up a third party router. I don't want to clog up the phone lines or chat right now.

I am having the exact same problem. I have been given two different variations of my login and my password neither work using an HG612 and a netgear r9000.

How did you get this resolved as I've spent over 4 hours today trying a myriad of passwords trying to get it to work

There can only be one version of your username & password.  I believe the biggest bar to success is getting the username part wrong, either because it was given out incorrectly (missing 'dsl' at the start for example) or because it was written down incorrectly rather than copied from the optional emailed chat transcript.

It should be in the format:

'dsl  123456789   @  broadband  dot  vodafone dot co dot uk (no spaces)

My password is a mix of eight upper and lower case letters but whether that holds true for every password...?

If it is your password that is incorrect then it's probably fair to say that you are stuffed unless or until you can get through to VF again.  A kindly forum moderator may be able to provide a little expeditious advice regarding contact in these strange times.

Perhaps a silly question but your HG612 is unlocked presumably?  There can't be four hours worth of permutations of the upper & lower case letters L and O in an eight character password
