IF YOU ARE USING A THIRD-PARTY ROUTER THAT WORKS 100% WITHOUT BUGS.PLEASE PM ME THE MAKE AND MODEL SO I CAN UPDATE THE LIST

The first thing you need to do is ask Vodafone for your username and password. live chat with Vodafone is best because you can copy and paste the name and password into the router. ( some users did write it down wrong. password is lower and upper case. username watch out for zero and o )

https://www.vodafone.co.uk/contact-us/index.htm

https://www.vodafone.co.uk/bbservcd/

FTTC SETTING         ( FTTP is below FTTC)

The setting is the same for all the routers it's down to the isp (the setting page will be laid out differently but the setting are still the same, eg

Vodafone setting are

Vlan ID - 101

enable 802.1q (not on every router)

Username  - ******@broadband.vodafone.co.uk

Username - ******@businessbroadband.vodafone.co.uk  ( for business customers )

Password - ********

PPPoE

MTU Size : 1492

rest of the setting auto detect when the router and the dslam are negotiating with each other

TP-Link Archer AC2300 MU-MIMO Wi-Fi Gigabit Router (Plug ONT cable into Internet port, run Autodetect > PPPoE > add username/pass = connected at full speed), no need for VLAN IDs

TP-Link Archer VR400 V3 AC1200 Wireless MU-MIMO Dual Band (1st Advanced tab, change the Operation Mode to Wireless Router Mode (the ONT is acting as a modem, hence it will not work if you are in DLS Modem Router Mode). 2nd  Do not enable VLAN ID or it will not work! Vodafone will tell you to set it to 101, if you do this it will not work! Keep the default MTU size (1480), do not change it to 1492, as suggested in several posts in this thread, or it will not work!.

Not sure if i'm being super dumb here. I'm trying to set up an asus ac86u with my new vodafone broadband and I cannot find the VLAN setting.  Can anybody help out and point me in the right direction?

That just shows how to connect a third party (in this case Asus) to the vodafone router.

What we're doing in this thread is removing the vodafone router altogether.

5:38 shows the VLAN settings page inside the Asus Router

VLAN is handled by the vodafone router the way he's connecting. The step he shows is unnecessary.

ahha, i assumed he is using some asus router + modem when he mentioned vlan. You are right, vlan is just n/a in his case.

I'll give it a go. Thanks 👍

Yes, because that is how Vodafone works. Your personal preferences are simply not taken into account.

Vodafone made a mistake sent my router to the wrong address and it won't arrive for another week, so I purchased a temporary router (TP Link) as I cannot have no internet connection for 1 week (we've gone past the connection date now, which was Wednesday so it's been 2 days with no internet so far).
I have setup the connection but can't get it connected.
I have configured it as a PPPoE connection.
VLAN ID = 101
MTU Size: 1492
I have spent the last 4 hours reading every post on this thread and trying all the debugging options I could find.
Username/password have been validated by Vodafone as being correct - however after multiple phone calls and a 2.5 hour web chat they are refusing to help as it is not a Vodafone router (as they didn't send me one yet!). Their final answer was basically "Google it" and go away which I found, well, truly astounding given the circumstances. In the end they "lost connection" after 2.5 hours.

I have the logs open on the router and I think the relevant enty is one that says [CHAP Failure id=0x1 "CHAP Auth Failure"]
The relevant parts of the logs are below, I wonder if anyone else could help me?
