OneNumber cost-- Why has it doubled?

I am looking to renew my pay monthly contract which comes with a OneNumber as well for my Apple Watch. For as long as I can remember, I had a 50% discount on the OneNumber.

For reasons that I cannot entirely understand, this policy seems to have changed. Vodafone now have discarded their 50% discount-- not even for decade long clients-- and now have uplifted it to the 10/month. So either the costs have doubled in a short period of time (hint hint-they haven't) or Vodafone is charging pure margin on just flicking a switch to share the exisiting data allowance with another device.

Any one else experienced the same?

They seem to do this!  You can try talking to an agent on the phone to see where that gets you, but get your other quotes first so you have the evidence.  I'm currently in the position where it'll be cheaper for me to lose all my discounts than to take out a new contract with Vodafone.  But I can get a like-for-like contract with EE for 2/5 the price Vodafone want to charge me.  I'll leave mine until closer to the end of my contract, but if they don't budge I'll be moving my mobile!

Agreed.

I need to go through that exercise myself-- any tips on what the best way around it is?

All I can say is make sure you have the information from competitors to hand, don't bluff, and if VF really won't shift then be prepared to move.  It's why I'm now with BT internet though my phone until now remained with Vodafone.

Welcome to the club - after 14 years with Vodafone for the first time I am extremely close to leaving - their offer are simply nowhere near to what I can get with O2 through Uswitch nor to what is offered to new customers. And if the connectivity OneNumber discount is also gone then that just makes the decision even easier….such a shame as I never had any massive problems when being with Vodafone…

Hello

alone in noticing the change in Vodafone’s OneNumber pricing policy. Many long-term customers have observed that Vodafone has indeed shifted away from offering the 50% discount on the OneNumber service for existing customers, leading to a standard monthly cost of £10. This change has understandably caused frustration among loyal customers, particularly those who have benefited from the previous discount for an extended period.

The increase appears to reflect a new pricing strategy by Vodafone, possibly aimed at standardizing charges across all customers. While this change can feel like an increase in costs, Vodafone might justify it by pointing to network and service enhancements or by aligning with broader market trends. However, as you noted, the actual costs of sharing an existing data allowance with an additional device don’t seem to have changed, suggesting a higher margin for the company.

For those affected, it may be worth contacting Vodafone’s customer support to express dissatisfaction, explore any available loyalty discounts, or look into alternative providers offering better value for similar services.

Time to look around. Some othEEr networks include the watch plan as a benefit so can be a small cost saving depending on what plan you need.
