Sim 1 not allowed

Hi got my new s21 ultra a few days ago but when I put my sim in slot 1 I get the message sim 1 not allowed. The sim works perfectly fine in sim slot 2... but its strange because I can put other sims in sim slot 1 which work perfectly fine so I don't think the imei is blacklisted or anything.

Hi @ChristopherM199

If the slot is indeed blacklisted, I would recommend asking Vodafone to replace the phone, this is a new phone and you shouldn't have this problem, it may also be a returned device.

It's also strange that it was just the one slot you would have expected the second slot to also be blacklisted.  Follow the link below.

Each Sim slot has it's own unique imei number @AnnS so if Vodafone attached a blacklist to sim slot one imei which is the main slot people tend to use this is why the 2nd sim slot is still open to use I'm thinking.

Indeed @BandOfBrothers that's the reason for two IMEI's needing to be submitted when the phone came locked. It would be pointless just to IMEI block only the one SIM slot leaving the second slot active and may be a genuine error.

So the phone probably hasn't been used and it's probably just a genuine error?

Vodafone would only be able to answer that question @ChristopherM199

It may just be an error where someone has been a little careless and typed in an incorrect digit, it's easily done.  I would still be inclined to get the handset replaced, it's an expensive phone and you are going to have it for the life of the contract (unless you take advantage of the flexi upgrade option) and upgrade early.  Best to start right.

Ok thanks everyone for all the replies I will be continuing with the exchange.

All the best.

If the seals on the box were intact then I'm prone to say Yes @ChristopherM199

Vodafone can lift an imei blacklist but it's invariably a time consuming journey.

There have been cases of incorrect IMEIs being blocked.   If the wrong number is quoted and/or entered, a perfectly innocent device can be affected.   That may be what's happened in this case.   It could even have been done long before the number was actually allocated, though you'd think there was a way of checking at the manufacturing stage.
