Sure Signal not working with Sky Broadband

Since changing over to Sky, my Sure Signal hasn't worked.  I've seen that people are generally getting that problem so I've done resets etc but to no avail.

IP address is in the 2.219.*.* range so is the Vodafone firewall receiving this?

Also, run a trace and got:

Anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

The re-sync doesn't seem to have worked, both lights went out again today and so I had to turn it off then back on again.

Hi mattbmw

It sounds like this could be linked with your line.

Could you perform the following for me:

powering down your router and sure signal. disconnecting all PC devices from the router and powering the router back up with just the Sure signal attached (and powered up)  once this has come up I would then connect a PC to the Router and test the internet connection by performing the followingo n a PC :

  • Click on Start  and select Run
  • Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
  • A black box will appear.
  • In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177    press Enter
  • Paste the output of this command into your reply  along with a copy of the results from running a speed test.

Thanks

Hi Ben,

It seems to be better - it's stayed on with no probs for nearly 24 hours now.

But I did the tracert and speed test:  2mpbs download, 370kbps upload.

17 ....this has gone all the way to 25 with time outs

Further to the message above the VSS stays working for just over 24 hours, but it's still failing.  Both white lights are off and the red light is on.  I have to unplug and plug back in again and after a few minutes it starts working again.

Hi mattbmw

Are you able to do a trace route report when this fails out? It sounds like if this is dropping in and out like this that the line might be an issue.

Everything you've mentioned so far would indicate either a fault with the box or an intermittent problem with the line. If the box was faulty I can’t see how this would be an intermittent fault as it would happen all the time and wouldn’t connect.

Do you notice this happening at any times of the day or if there is any pattern to it?

Thanks

It's run ok now for nearly 3 days without me needing to power on and off.

I think whatever the problem is you are most likely right in your analysis that it's the line.

Consider this case resolved for now, I'll keep doing tracert checks though.

Damn, may have spoken too soon!

Last night both white lights started flashing, I checked internet access and my laptop and phone were connected with no problems.

I reset my router anyway, made no difference.  I reset the network hub that the VSS is plugged into (which in turn is plugged into the router) and this made no difference either.

So I don't think it is the line or my network hardware.

Even if there is a temporary problem with the line, the VSS should be able to reconnect ?  It always requires switching off for 10 seconds otherwise it won't reconnect and both white lights eventually go out.

I think we can close the case on my VSS.  Since the last message above beginning 'damn' the VSS has remained online without any problems. :smileyhappy:

Tried it out on another Sky broadband connection with a DSL2640s router set to Sky_2.04 with MER protocol as follows:

1. Re registered to a new postcode

2. Added the VSS as a static address

3. Open all ports forwarded to the VSS.

It is now working which is rather puzzling as this is what I did initially on the other broadband connection. The only difference is that the initial broadband connection had a 1mb download speed and about 300k upload speed.

If the problem still persists contact Sky support here

Not sure if this is the same issue. I am on Sky Connect (Sagem FAST 2404) with IP 90.207.53.160 (at the moment, it changes a lot) and the sure signal will turn on, flash both lights for 10 minutes and then sit with just the power light on after that. Really need to get it to work as it is the whole reason for moving to Vodafone so any help would be sweet.

Cheers

Jon
