Synology RT2600ac - Vodafone Router - CityFibre - PPPoE

Had Vodafone 900mb/900mb package installed today via CityFibre.

Wanting to use my own network, consisting of a Synology RT2600ac mesh network.

This router has modem capabilities, so in theory this should work like a breeze, but I've tried various things, including restarts, soft reset etc. but the PPPoE just never seems to connect - despite waiting hours.

I should add - the internet works fine via the Vodafone supplied router.

PPPoE details was provided via live chat - I did confirm at the time if they gave the correct info, and said to me they 'copied and pasted it from the activation portal'.

I've tried the VID or VLAN ID as 911 for CityFibre (second screenshot) as I've read on this Vodafone forum.

Settings screenshot below - is there something I'm missing?

PS: I've also tried with IPv6 disabled, and that did not work either.

I got it to work!

If there is anyone out there, anyone at all interested - other than the two screenshots I have shared previously that display all the correct settings, you have to ensure 'Secondary Interface - LAN 1) is disabled - which is another setting further down the same page, but cannot be seen in the screenshot.

You then proceed to the ISP settings on the router, and within VID for LAN 1, put in 911, and on the dropdown for priority underneath, set to 0 (other numbers may also work, but I haven't yet tested).

I am still able to have my 4G backup for failover, but this is done via USB and not via the LAN 1 port.

If anyone ever comes across any issues, please reply to this thread, and as long as this forum sends me an email, notification, I will most certainly try and help with screenshots etc.

So there you have it folks, Synology RT2600ac can be added to the confirmed routers that work with Vodafone Broadband, directly into the ONT. It's a more than capable router, easily coping with my 900/900 speeds with various other threat protection etc enabled.

Thanks to the above posters for their help in troubleshooting.

This is a little over my head, I'm used to simpler stuff. Surely the failover feature can be disabled?

Maybe reset the router and go through setup using the SRM app?

I had the same thoughts as @Ripshod . I don't know that router, but should you not be using the first setting option, not LAN2 (unless they are virtual LANs and not the LAN ports.

Have you tried the Setup utility in the router as per the manual?

In order to do this on the RT2600AC unless it's gotten any better you'll need Firmware V1.3 or later.  You'll then need to set up LAN 1 as a secondary WAN port, connect to the ONT/PON from the LAN 1 port.  When you've don't this you should be able to use the IPTV: manual settings and set up VLAN on LAN 1!

It's a faff but that has worked quite recently.

I know it doesn't help, but you are not alone in having had this issue!

Well, that's the strange thing - the VLAN (VID) ISP settings only start from LAN 2 onwards. No option to edit LAN 1 either.

I currently do have it set as a secondary WAN port via LAN 1, and tested both ways - enabling and disabling secondary WAN, but settings don't seem to change much, in allowing the ability to add VLAN to either WAN or LAN 1.

Not yet got SRM 1.3 - it seems to many people are complaining about 1.3/1.3.1 RC being more like a beta, due to how many issues persist.

I've created a support ticket with Synology, unsure how much (or if it's limited) in the support they provide.

EDIT: I should add, I also have another Synology RT2600ac set up at a family members house, and I help them 'manage' their services. The options that show up is the exact same.

As you say, it could be a SRM v1.2x limitations

My apologies for getting this the wrong way around!

Thanks DR Jeff and other members for doing the groundwork and posting screenshots and results on the forum,  with the Synology Router, I've had one sitting in the corner of my dining room boxed for a good few months and now I have renewed my contract for 24 months with VF I feel its time to tackle the switchover from the standard cityfibre / VF router to the Synology RT2600ac, I have very limited experience (Although I have dabbled) with setting up routers and the language involved is always quite a barrier but I'm pleased I've found this thread and hopefully it will go fairly smoothly.  I will post my results or queries here and let the forum know how it goes.

My primary reason for fitting this router is because it has some great family settings and the intention is to try to get my children to reduce their use of screen time across multiple devices (fingers crossed) without having to micromanage. The router can assign profiles to each household user and then add in their devices and these can be used to limit access I believe to either specific websites of the internet entirely and set times / limits etc for each user which all sounds fantastic.     Perhaps a topic for a separate post in the meantime I will make an effort this week to get the router live.
