UPDATE ..... I've just queried this with Vodafone,  as soon as you start a call you will get a setup  charge even if nobody  answers !!!

To sort this I have had outgoing calls barred.

Call charges start when the receiver answers the phone, not when the phone starts ringing, if the call goes to voicemail there will be a charge, if unanswered there will be no charge.

Vodafone list call charges here: Vodafone Home Phone Charges

Hi, thanks for your response.

I was surprised that my future bill shows a 71p call charge ..... think it was a 45 second voicemail as I've  only had Vodafone for a couple of weeks. Dont think there have been any other accidents.  ( double pressing call button ??  As caller clears their end ).

Unbelievable, but then this is Vodafone.

I've just made an unanswered call to a m8 - see if this appears on my bill.

There's no mention of this charge anywhere though there is mention of a 19p "connection charge" which leaves us to assume it's charged when the call is connected, ie answered.

There's questions.

Don't forget this is with fibre to the house. It could be different with the older normal phone line.

Yes we understand that. @Ripshod is on FTTP.

I simply do not believe the answer from Vodafone. So much of what they tell people on the phone is total garbage.

No charge on my account for unanswered calls so I don't understand why vodafone would treat me any differently to @wirren, and even worse lie about it- just vodafone being vodafone. Time for you to push them on this.

I wonder if it's because we have no landline just fibre direct ?

If you're saying digital voice (plug phone into the router) then that's what I have - no copper line. It's standard for fttp.
